I went to the Antiques Roadshow!

Press Packer Jayne loves antiques and she was lucky enough to go along to the filming of the Antiques Roadshow - a TV programme all about old toys, furniture, pottery and paintings.

Here she tells us about taking part in the filming and finding out about her own family treasures!

"I went to a children's version of the Antiques Roadshow. It was called Antiques Roadshow - The Next Generation.

My antiques

I had a great time looking at the items that other people had brought, as well as having my own family treasures valued.

I took along some old paper weights depicting Edinburgh and a china egg holder in the form of a hen.

I learnt a lot about the items that I took along and I found out lots about other people's items too!

One of the most exciting items I saw was a Scalextric set!

On TV!

There was a competition at the roadshow - all the children were asked to take along a picture that they had created at home.

Renault is number one exhibit at the Decorative Antiques ...

The Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair is one of the leading and most important antiques fairs in the UK. Visitors are connoisseurs of quality and design. So what better way to travel to and from the fair than in the streamlined elegance of a Renault Grand Espace?

The Fair, with its high-quality, competitively-priced antiques attracts private buyers, antiques dealers and design professionals from all over the world. Exhibits are displayed to reflect how the individual pieces might look within a home. The atmosphere of the Fair is distinctive - stylish but approachable, elegant but relaxed. Just like that of the Renault Grand Espace!

Mrs Patricia Harvey, organiser of the Decorative Fairs, says “The courtesy shuttle service provided by Renault Espaces makes a huge difference to our customers, who find it a real help, particularly when they have bulky purchase to carry away."

Renault UK offers a complimentary car service between Sloane Square and the Marquee in luxurious and spacious Grand Espaces – lots of room for fair visitors and their substantial acquisitions!

Finders and keepers flock to annual antiques show

From little trinkets to large pieces of furniture, there was a little bit of everything at the Robert R. Merlino Memorial Antiques Show yesterday in Cromwell Center, Tompkinsville.

"There is so much stuff," said Gladys Schweiger, executive director of the Staten Island Alzheimer's Foundation. "There are all types of things -- estate jewelry, crystal, furniture. It's wonderful."

She even found a little turtle statue for her granddaughter, who loves the shelled reptile.

The Alzheimer's Foundation hosts the annual event, which attracts vendors from as far away as Pennsylvania and usually raises about $10,000 for the organization through admission, raffle sales and vendor tables.

Ms. Schweiger said the profit they make from the event stays on Staten Island and is used to help run various programs.

Collectibles: RC2 may be exiting model business

News that RC2, a venerable company with extensive ties with the model car industry, may be getting out of the diecast and plastic car business is setting off alarms for model car hobbyists.

Company spokeswoman Sarah Meltzer said it's too early to say RC2 is pulling out. It will "continue to operate the business on a daily basis'' while it explores its options, she said.

But Tim Kubicek, who works for RC2 with model car and collectibles journalists across the country, said the company is confronting poor sales and high prices for zinc and is looking at selling all or parts of the business.

Back in the late 1990s and early part of this century, it was not unusual for the company to sell 5,000 to 10,000 copies of a single diecast model car. But RC2 is now selling about a fifth of that amount, Mr.
